Spring fishing report for the Blue River

The Smallmouth and Rock Bass will become active in April. The bite will continue through the spring, peaking in mid May. That’s not to say that you won’t catch them at other times of the year though.

My bait of choice is the Rebel Crawdad and the Wee Crawdad. These baits come in several different colors. You may need to change colors according to river conditions and time of year.

To get the most out of your fishing trip, I recommend you get a “sit on top kayak” and use light equipment. Waterproof containers are great for your lures, food, etc… Don’t forget your pliers for proper hook release.

Places to fish include, eddies below the riffles, submerged boulders, and logs. Be careful not to get to close to these spots so you don’t spook the fish. Other fish you may catch are Sunfish, Bluegill, Largemouth Bass, Crappie, White Perch, and Catfish.
